Freedom Climb 2011 “Stand united and be counted!” A Guinness World Record Attempt
Along with the celebration of our National Independence, the BatangRizal Organization spearheaded this “another first” for the town of Rizal, a momentous event with the title ‘Freedom Climb 2011’.
Freedom Climb is an annual event wherein mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts from different parts of the country join forces to summit different climbing destinations concurrently. But for this year, the national organizers of the Freedom Climb come up with something that has never been done before. This is to create a new criterion in the Guinness Book of World Records and set a global record for – THE MOST PEOPLE TO SUMMIT DIFFERENT PEAKS with a timeframe of 24-hours. It has been authorized to use the “Guinness World Records” trademark under Claim ID: 339189.
At Tayak Hill, the Freedom Climb 2011 served as a good promotional activity. That’s why almost 170 Freedom Climbers composed not only from the Municipality of Rizal but also of people from different towns and cities including Calamba, San Pedro, Cavite and Makati stayed at Tayak Hill for 24 hours from 12 noon of Saturday June 11, until 12 noon of Sunday, June 12.
The event at Tayak Hill was organized by BatangRizal (Laguna) Organization (BRO) and the United Group of Mountaineers (UGM), it was BatangRizal Service Team headed by BRO Lloyd Cataring who spearheaded the activities such as team building, team exploration of Tayak Hill as well as sharing historical notes, camaraderie, and the flag raising event which signified our independence, which was fought hard by the Filipinos including Dr. Jose Rizal.A mass was also held headed by Rev. Father Eduardo “Dodie” Arufo which is also present on the said activity.
The event was covered by PA@TV, a team of media men that covers promotional activities and events and features it at a cable network at United Arab Emirates (UAE) where OFW’s can watch and be informed about the latest and freshest at their beloved country.
As the goals of the activity states, “Records will be set, Trees will be planted, Tourism will be promoted, Heroes will be honoured”, all of which are accomplished and it all happened here at Tayak Hill, Rizal, Laguna.
